Renewing Approved Accommodations

Academic Accommodations

To renew your approved academic accommodation(s) for your courses each semester, you will need to complete a Semester Request within Accommodate. You can utilize the following guide on submitting a Semester Request for additional support on renewing academic accommodations in Accommodate.

Video Demonstration of How to Submit a Semester Request in Accommodate

Follow the steps below to submit a request to renew academic accommodations:

Step 1. Access the Student Interface of Accommodate and log in by utilizing your UNI CatID.

Step 2. Open the Semester Request.

  • Select "Semester Request" under the Accommodation tab.
  • Select "Request Accommodation." You do not need to indicate a specific term in the "Semester" drop-down menu on this page.

Step 3. Complete the Semester Request.

  • A green-outlined box under the "Accommodation" tab will list the approved academic accommodation(s) in your access plan.
  • Select the term for which you want to renew your academic accommodation(s) in the "Semester" drop-down menu.
  • If you want to renew ALL of your academic accommodations for ALL of your courses in the selected semester:
    1. Select "Submit For All Accommodations."
    2. Your Semester Request will automatically be submitted to Student Accessibility Services (SAS).
    3. If you want to request any changes to your Semester Request after selecting "Submit for All Accommodations," you will need to contact SAS directly at (319) 273-2677 Relay 711, accessibilityservices@uni.edu, or ITTC 007.
  • If you want to select which academic accommodation(s) you want to renew for each of your courses in the selected semester:
    1. Select "Review The Renewal."
    2. Under "What accommodations are you requesting?" will be boxes titled "Accessibility Accommodation." Each box will list one of your approved academic accommodations and the semester you selected to renew them.
    3. Under "Courses" in each "Accessibility Accommodation" box, select the checkbox(es) next to the course(s) in the selected semester in which you want to utilize the listed academic academic. For example, if you are enrolled in five courses and want to utilize one of your approved academic accommodations in all of those courses, you will select the checkboxes for all five of those courses within that respective "Accessibility Accommodation" box. You will need to review each one of your approved academic accommodations and select the courses in which you want to utilize them.
Note: Some courses will be listed more than once under "Courses" in the "Accessibility Accommodation" box. The reason why a course will be listed more than once can vary, including if there is more than one professor for the course, if there is more than one set meeting time for the course during the week (e.g., Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. and Fridays at 11:00 a.m.), and if there is a lab or field experience associated with the course.
    4. Select "Submit at the bottom of the form.
    5. If you want to request any changes to your Semester Request after selecting "Submit," you will need to contact SAS directly at (319) 273-2677 Relay 711, accessibilityservices@uni.edu, or ITTC 007.

Step 4. SAS will review the Semester Request and send your Course Accessibility Letter to you and your faculty.

You are required to schedule individual meetings with your faculty, either during their office hours or a separate appointment time, to discuss your accommodations. You should contact SAS as soon as possible if any questions or concerns arise either during those meetings or throughout the semester.

If you make any changes to your course schedule after you receive your Course Accessibility Letter for the semester, you need to contact SAS at (319) 273-2677 Relay 711, accessibilityservices@uni.edu, or ITTC 007 in order for your Course Accessibility Letter to be sent to the new faculty.

If you want to request any changes to your access plan, you need to schedule a meeting with SAS staff. Instructions on how to request an appointment through Accommodate are available on the SAS website.
